How to read the wind maps

Wind maps show the direction and speed forecast for the wind, a key factor for wave quality.

Wind speed

Shown in kilometres per hour (Km/h). The higher the speed, the greater its effect on the sea surface, which can make the swell messy when it blows hard.

Wind direction

Shows where the wind is blowing from. Offshore wind (from land to sea) tends to groom and shape the waves; onshore wind (from sea to land) tends to make them messy.

When it's best to surf

In general, the best conditions happen with light or offshore wind. Check the wind map alongside the wave map to choose the best time and place for your session.
